Context

Linkfor, a WISP in Belgorod Oblast, Russia, has over 4,000 clients—over a quarter are connected using LigoWave. Their DLB-based last-mile network in Volokonovka was upgraded to the DLBac series. The distance between the base station & the 60× clients ranged from 0.3 to 3km.

Problem

With this upgrade, Linkfor aimed to increase its network capacity in order to support a higher concurrent client count & to better meet the growing internet access needs. The upgraded equipment also meant prospects of launching additional services such as VoIP or IPTV, effectively adding another source of revenue for the WISP.

Solution

The network was upgraded to LigoDLB PRO 5-90-17ac & 5-15ac/5-20ac devices. The advanced hardware ensured more network capacity, while the iPoll proprietary protocol extended coverage, stabilized jitter & reduced latency, this way increasing network efficiency & link quality. The Infinity Controller was used to manage & monitor the network end-to-end, reducing setup time & costs.

Results

Overall throughput averaged at 38Mbps, peaking at 76Mbps, over a 20MHz channel. This shows a ~30% increase in performance compared to the 11n predecessor. iPoll & hardware-based QoS ensured stable jitter, reduced latency & good signal levels (averaging at –55/–55dBm). As a result, the new DLBac equipment provided Linkfor fast & reliable connectivity at a very competitive price.
